Keyence LR-Z Series (Distance-setting type, high-power:)
Enables stable detection of difficult-to-detect workpieces. When using KEYENCE’s previous reflective-type sensors that detect based on light intensity, detection instability sometimes occurs due to the color or surface condition of the workpiece. The distance-setting type LR-Z series addresses this issue, providing stable detection regardless of the workpiece’s type or condition. With the addition of a high-power model (LR-ZH type), its application range has been further expanded.

LR-ZB100P
Maximum Detection Distance of 500 mm

Detection capability can be maximized up to 500 mm through high-power enhancement. When using sensors based on the luminance value principle, unstable light intensity at longer distances can lead to detection failure. However, the LR-Z series enables stable detection even at extended ranges and when installed at an angle, allowing for worry-free layout installation.

Black Objects
Even for low-reflectivity workpieces where light intensity is nearly undetectable, the LR-Z series guarantees a detection distance more than twice that of the conventional LR-ZB model. This enhances stability during close-range use.

Metals
The angular performance for highly glossy metallic workpieces is improved by approximately twice that of the conventional LR-ZB model, enabling accurate detection from various angles.

CMOS + Laser Light Source (Triangulation Ranging with High Power)
Triangulation ranging is one of the detection principles of displacement sensors. Light emitted by the transmitter illuminates the workpiece, and the reflected light enters the receiver. The receiver is equipped with a CMOS image sensor composed of multiple light-receiving elements. By varying the distance to the workpiece, the peak position of the received light waveform on the CMOS image sensor changes. Consequently, the distance to the workpiece can be calculated.

2-Million-Fold High-Definition Dynamic Range
With KEYENCE’s previous sensors, changes in workpiece color or surface condition would alter the light intensity level. However, the LR-Z series employs light quantity control tailored to the workpiece, achieving an optimal light intensity level. The adjustment range is effectively 2 million times. This enables accurate detection of various workpieces.

Triangulation Ranging with High PowerDetection Based on Distance + Light Intensity Changes from Background State

The system stores the distance and light intensity of a reference background. When a workpiece enters the detection area, any deviation in distance or light intensity from the stored background triggers detection. This method ensures accurate detection even in complex backgrounds, regardless of changes in workpiece color or surface condition. It also enables stable detection of thin workpieces with small height differences.

Transparent Objects

For transparent object detection, “background tuning” is employed to capture light intensity variations. By monitoring changes in the registered background’s light intensity, the system can detect transparent objects. Despite being a distance-based sensor, it offers versatility to handle transparent objects in the presence of a background. For optimal stability during transparent object detection, it is recommended to install the sensor at an angle relative to the detection target.

Elimination of Background Variations
When operating at high sensitivity, there is an increased risk of false triggers due to subtle background changes or the gradual accumulation of dirt. “Background Tuning” can effectively cancel out minor background variations and slow changes caused by dirt buildup, allowing the system to detect only abrupt changes in distance and light intensity. This ensures stable and continuous operation over time.

Long-Distance Detection Using Reflectors or Retroreflective Tape

By employing reflectors or retroreflective tape, the maximum detection range can be extended up to 700 mm. This method is also suitable for applications without a defined background or in scenarios where the background shape is unstable.
